February Newsletter

There’s been lots going on at CB Neuro Fitness throughout February! We’ve had some great achievements for clients, staff have been undertaking some very interesting training, and we’ve been planning some exciting things for the near future.

      Client achievements

      Sam W

Weight loss is not always an easy thing to achieve, it requires planning, dedication and consistency, and that is what our client Sam has in abundance. Less than 2 months after achieving his last target weight, he has already hit his new weight loss goal of 80kg. Congratulations Sam, you work hard in every gym session and it’s great to see you reap the rewards of your efforts.

        Sponsored walk

A few months ago, one of our clients Lee, expressed his interest in carrying out a sponsored walk to raise money for charity. He asked for our help in not only planning this, but also joining him on the walk itself. After some research into accessible, yet challenging routes, we are now able to say that in June this year, Lee and the team will be taking on the Derwent Water Circular. This will be a 10 mile walk around the Derwent Water lake in the Lake District, with all money raised going to the charity ‘Headway’.

‘Headway’ are a charity dedicated to helping improve the life of individuals who have acquired a brain injury. Over the next few months we will be sharing more information on how you can sponsor Lee.

          Staff Training

Last month, our team was visited by Angela Dainton, a very knowledgeable Physiotherapist, who delivered some training on back pain. As exercise prescribers, it is important we understand not only what can cause back pain, but also the different types of back pain and its symptoms, when to refer to a physiotherapist or A&E and what exercises are useful in both prevention and management of back pain. Some of the topics discussed included: Arthritis, Disc herniation/bulge, Osteoporosis, Sciatica and SI Joint (sacroiliac Joint) Dysfunction.

It was great to have Angela visit us, the training was educational and as a team we learnt a lot, which we will now be able to take forward into our own practice with clients.

            Gym Group

This month marks the 1 year anniversary of our ABI gym group. Over this time, we have learnt a lot about what works in our sessions as well as what doesn’t. We continue to listen to what our clients say and need in order to develop our sessions and practice, providing them with a suitable gym environment equipped to help them achieve their best efforts. As a result of this, we now have 8 members who are consistent in showing up as well as both support staff and other professionals, such as physiotherapists, joining in with their clients too.

The gym group on Friday is the highlight of all our staff members’ week, and we want to thank all our clients who show up and work hard for making it possible.

              Kyle’s cakes

One of our clients, Kyle, not only loves to train at the gym, but is also an avid (and brilliant) baker. We are pleased to announce that from next month, Kyle will be creating his own brand of protein snacks to sell at the gym. Kyle is already working hard on developing his recipes and practicing in the kitchen. Watch this space to see what he creates.

                Client Occupation

Over the last few months, we have had a client work alongside our team to develop her knowledge base of the sports and fitness industry with a view to work towards identifying and achieving a future occupation. During this time, she has shadowed several of our PTs with a variety of clients and helped plan and deliver sections of client workouts. However, it has been her time spent with our Sports Therapist – Chris Moulder –  working on sports massage that has proved to be the most impactful. Not only has she been developing both her theoretical and practical knowledge in the occupation, but she has also carried out several sports massages on our client base – all of which have given fantastic feedback. Following this, we are now at the stage of researching and identifying a suitable sports massage course for her to complete and obtain her full qualification.

                  Coming up

Along with all the exciting things mentioned above, in March the team will be undertaking a level 3 safeguarding course alongside Physio Matters Neurological Ltd.
