After a diagnosis of Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Anxiety in August 2019 I plummeted into quite a dark place. I felt like I was wearing a big sign on my head telling everyone about my mental health problems. It took me a while to take it in and work out how I wanted to try to manage it in a way that was best for me! I enlisted myself for some counselling and I started to talk to Craig about doing some fitness training. My thinking was if I was to feel better I needed to work on me as a whole, there was no point sorting out my thinking if I still was seeing the same image in the mirror! My husband and I started to work with Craig doing some private sessions (I was too anxious to just go to a gym) I soon started to see my body change shape, I was right, it was working, the counselling and my gym work were both starting to help me see my body differently. Craig was such a big help, he saw my anxiety, he was patient and very understanding also he was very supportive. The support Craig gave me kept me going on some days, he helped me believe in myself. Although I had (have) a lot of support from friends and family it felt so important to have it from my gym instructor, it kept me going, I felt he really believed in me! So a year after embarking on my first gym session with Craig, I’m in a much better place, I’m more confident, I’m stronger physically and mentally, I’m fitter, I weigh less and I’m at least 2 dress sizes smaller but most of all it’s reduced my anxiety! I will always have to work on being well mentally but having the tools and knowing how to use them really helps!!

Amazing!!! Having known Craig a couple of years I started group training with him once a week – Following a bad knee injury (Meniscus) in July I contacted Craig to arrange some one on one sessions in attempt to return to football – After over 6 months out and multiple sessions I am back playing and fully recovered! Heads Up Therapies

Craig and I have worked together with numerous individuals with varying disabilities, including complex acquired brain injuries. His ability to build a positive therapeutic relationship is flawless, he has an uncanny knack of aligning himself on the person’s wave length, which ultimately means they are engaged and invested in the sessions. Craig is flexible in his approach and endeavours to work in line with his clients strengths and weaknesses. He is well versed with working within an MDT and has excellent clinical knowledge. 

Craig has become an invaluable member of the Heads Up Therapies team and runs our ABI football group, all the members have the upmost respect for him and thoroughly enjoy his sessions.

I first met Craig when he was recommended to me by my case manager. I was involved in a road accident at the start of 2021, my injuries consisted of a fractured spine, broken pelvis, punctured lung and 5 fractured ribs. I was not allowed to put any weight on my legs for 12 weeks, and I had 2 steel rods inserted into my back to stabilise my spine, and as well my pelvis was being held in place by screws.

Craig came to my home in December of 2022 and did an initial assessment of me, to determine what would be the best course of action to take in helping with my recovery. Since then I have usually seen Craig on a twice weekly basis and we have concentrated on my core strength and my stamina. These have massively improved under Craig’s expertise.

His professionalism, his knowledge of the subject and his friendly approach have shone through, to a point were I am in a better physical shape then I have been for years. I would recommend Craig to anyone who has had life changing injuries and is looking for a personal trainer who is motivating, caring, and has only the best interests of his clients at heart.

Starting personal training with Craig is one of the best things I have done. I met Craig at football with Heads up Therapies, where he is a coach. After years of me not doing anything physical, and the thought of it being very overwhelming, my support encouraged me to try football. I eventually agreed to give it a go and never looked back. From playing football weekly with Craig and the rest of the team, my fitness level improved, and I wanted to do more. I don’t really enjoy the gym environment as it can make me feel uncomfortable, so my support worker suggested doing PT sessions with Craig.

 

Craig made me feel comfortable, and was really supportive and encouraging, so much so that I now do two sessions a week. I’ve gone from never wanting to do any physical exercise to now not wanting to ever miss it. It’s changed my life for the better, not just physically but mentally. I sleep better, try to eat better, and I have made some great friends in the process. I just wish I had started sooner, I can’t thank Craig enough and recommend his PT and football sessions.

Craig has been my personal trainer since last year. He has helped me set and achieve new fitness goals that fit in with my ability needs and my exercise preferences. The workouts he designs for me are unique, specific, progressive, achievable, but always require me to put the work in! He has always listened carefully to my exercise aims and ambitions and I can’t imagine there would be another PT who understands my exercise needs and preferences better than Craig does.

Once I heard Craig was setting up a brain injury gym session group, I thought it was a fantastic idea straight away. Also, with the sessions being a circuit, there’s always something new to try and test your own abilities. The other trainers who are there, along with Craig, Jade and the two Chris’s, are brilliant. They make the session fun and enjoyable, pushing you to do your best, that’s what makes me return. I would encourage anyone with a brain injury to join, you can gain so much and you won’t regret it.

I’ve been supporting my client in attending the ABI gym group sessions on Fridays since it started a few months ago, and I can’t recommend these classes enough. Obviously, the health benefits are great, but Craig and the team make the classes so much fun for clients and encourage us support workers to participate, which is a fabulous way to bond with our clients. The mental health benefits to clients and the social aspect of the group enable our clients to interact with their peers in a fun and safe environment. It is lovely to see everyone encouraging and supporting each other and building strong friendships in these classes. Thank you.
